I just finished these wedding invites for a friend (Hey, Brianna and Keith!), and with little time and a small budget, they ended up very simple, but quite elegant. The printer made so many mistakes and wasted so much of my precious paper that I continually (as she continued to make errors) requested she discount my order. In the end I got the job completely free—I'm turning into my mother.

(That's not a bad thing.)

firework studies

A beautiful book of grainy black-and-white fireworks, designed by Pierre Le Hors. He says:

firework studies is a book compiling photographs of fireworks in the night sky. by constraining nearly all tonal values to stark blacks and pure whites, the trails, explosions and clouds of debris are reduced to a series of simple repeated formal elements: arced lines, spherical bursts, and randomly dispersed particles. i made no effort to limit digital artifacts resulting from pushing the image files past their conventional range; the resulting noise becomes hard to distinguish from the texture of the fireworks themselves.

Couldn't resist adding this to my library, and it feels so good in my sloppily red-manicured hands. I like the idea of "reading" it: a couple giggles every now and then, maybe a tear-filled chapter, but definitely a happy ending.

I forced myself to forgo my default white/black/kraft palette, and incorporate some color. Thus, we have here some hand-lined chartreuse envelopes. Lining your own envelopes is so quick and easy, and adds such a great texture and presence to any mail. In fact, I just ordered a couple great pattern books from the V&A, with high hopes of elaborate envelopes in the future. (I think working in the stationery store has turned me into a freak.)

I recently created all of the paper goods for a gorgeous Seattle wedding. The ceremony took place at Steven Holl's Chapel of St. Ignatius, on Seattle University's campus.

and that is a pleasure

This is a letterpress print i did last summer at a studio in London. I came across the John Cage quote one afternoon as i was browsing at the British Library, and found it quite fitting for my life at the time (and, in retrospect: for life in general).
